The very first batch of the DCN28DAV mainboard has been assembled - software is at debug stage... DCN28DAV is a high performance digital crossover filter / pre-amplifier with equalization and delay. It features the ability to receive digital audio signals (PCM) either as balanced AES3 (XLR - transformer coupled), coaxcial (RCA) or optical (TOS-link) and addisionally there is 2 balanced analogue inputs (one full level stereo signal). The input is selected between the mentioned sources and processed in the DSP as either maximum a 4-way stereo or 8-way mono crossover. After processing the 8 single-ended outputs are attenuated with a digital controlled volume circuitry. The usage of very high performance Burr-Brown converters gives DCN28DAV crystal clear sound and very low noise floor. The sample rate is 96 kHz to extend bandwidth and have low order analogue low pass output filtering. The resolution of converters is 24 bit and the internal signal processor resolution is 76 bit. The signal processor will be configured as 8 output channels of 20 IIR each and 2 input channels with 12 IIR filters each for filtering and equalization. The circuit board is a high quality 4 layer type which prevents noise and hum. The layout features a lot of decoupling very close to all active components. The onboard power supply has dedicated regulated supplies for the digital signals, analogue converter supply, op-amps and relay circuitry. DCN28DAV has an optical isolated USB programming interface to avoid hum and noise from the PC. DCN28DAV is the heart of an active speaker management system offering a superb sound, easy installation and easy use in daily life. The volume, input select, mute and power on/off is controlled with either an IR remote or the front mounted encoder switch. The system control display is shown below. The display indicates selected input and attenuation - at power on the display shows "GROUND SOUND - DCN28DAV" for about 2 seconds. The control display can be delivered in different colors and looks. The software is a graphical tool to manipulate with inputs, outputs, gain, crossover frequencies,
crossover slopes, equalization and delay. The software has a very significant feature: The ability to import a text file containing
measured driver data of frequency, sound pressure level and phase. With these data the software are able to display frequency response
and more, while design are in progress. Compared to this method the “old” trial and error method seems obsolete. The software comes in two versions:
A standard as described above and a special which include measurement system and optimizer. More details at the XOverWizard II page. |
